Movie Day!
This week I will highlight my favorite running movie, as well as my favorite running book (or books).
And the movie is… Unbreakable: The Western States 100
The movie tracks Hal Koerner, Geoff Roes, Anton Krupicka and Kilian Jornet in the 2010 race from Squaw Valley, up though the Sierra Nevada Mountains, down through the heat of the American River Canyons and finally to Auburn, CA. It also profiles each of the athletes leading up to the race.
I don’t run ultramarathons (yet) and this is still my favorite running movie! Why? These guys genuinelly love running. And they are good. Really good. The movie is put together quite well and it brings you to the edge of your seat, even when you already know the outcome of the race!! (In case you don’t know the outcome, I won’t spoil it - watch the movie!!)
The movie also has an excellent soundtrack - in fact, I will credit Hal Koerner for introducing me to Trampled By Turtles - Thanks, Hal!
This movie makes you want to run - far. It makes you want to do an ultra. It makes you want to compete.
If you’re interested in owning a copy, you can pick one up here: http://www.ws100film.com/index.html
Other running movies I enjoy include: Spirit of the Marathon and Running the Sahara
Check back later this week for book reviews!
